After the meal, we sat until the sunset with the elves around a huge campfire. There we talked, used sign language, and laughed a lot. I think it was after midnight before we finally went to bed. The next morning, we thanked the hospitality of the half elves.
We went on on our awesome road trip, towards our next adventure.
Urgh I think it has been such a long time since I have written a diary entry for this. But even though I said that we went on with our road trip the following morning, that was quite a lie. We didn’t leave the following morning, because we had so much fun with the half elves. I think we kind of lost track of time with them. And as they were our first stop, how would the rest of our adventure go?
I think it had been days that we had been walking without meeting anyone or seeing other races. Not that that really mattered, because we had the time. But I have to be honest: I was starting to be a bit afraid that we wouldn’t meet anyone anymore, as if everyone was hiding from us. But during these days we saw the most wonderful landscape of the forest we were in. It was so beautiful that Buffy and I decided to stay a little longer here in the forest.
It was the fifth day of being in the forest, when Buffy saw the first sign of life. It was so weird to see some sign of life after 5 days seeing none. No elves, no magical creatures and no animals. And there it was, well, it wasn’t an it. It was a human being. We never expected to see another human being here in this magical forest, let alone meet a muggle. Well I have to say it was kind of weird. It wasn’t someone who was a squib. It was a real muggle, but a muggle who has met magic. It was a muggle that was roaming the land in search for magic.
This muggle, I think it’s safe to say I think he was a ranger. He looked like a ranger. So Buffy and I named him Ranger, since he wouldn’t tell us his real name. He kind of reminded me like Doctor Who, because let’s be honest; he always announces himself as The Doctor. And well, this is The Ranger, thus the reminder of Doctor Who.
You wouldn’t believe it, but the Ranger had so many stories to tell us. He told us that he has been roaming the world on his own for years now. He told us he had seen so many things. He had seen Elves, Dwarves, Giants, Centaurs and many more creatures. He told us all kind of stories all night through. I have to say I was stuck to his lips. The stories were amazing. So amazing, that I can’t retell them, because I won’t be able to tell them like he did.
The ranger also gave us a taste of the food he could make. Through the years, he has learned so many recipes from all the different creatures he’s seen. He gave us some stone giants with gravel and Summerly Elves soup. It was so delicious that I begged the Ranger to give us the recipe. And you never will guess that he did give it to us! He even told Buffy and I that we should share this recipe with as many people as possible.
I have to say to make the Elves soup it was so easy to do, I was so surprised when he told us how to make it. To make this soup you only need 2 muskmelons (cantaloupe melon) and 1 teaspoon of Cumin. Just cut the melons in half and remove the seeds. After that remove the melons’ flesh and put it in a bowl. Add the cumin to the melon flesh and mash them together. After that, put the flesh back in the melons and put them for a hour on a cool spot. Well if you’re home you can put it in a fridge or something. So that’s how you make Summerly Elves soup. He even said Elves have a winter version of the soup, but he didn’t tell us that.
As for the Rock Giants with Gravel you need lots more ingredients. For the Rock Giants you need 1 egg, 125g fine sugar and 125g coconut. If you are in a forest, like the Ranger, make a hot fire, cause you need to bake them, or when you’re at home use an oven and warm it up to 200⁰C. While the fire is getting hotter (or the oven) whip the egg lose with the sugar and coconut. Make pyramid looking cookies from the dough. After that, bake the cookies for 10 minutes.
So while the Rock Giants are cooling down, let’s start with making the Gravels. For the gravels, you need 70g bilberries and 100g white chocolate. Press the juice out of the bilberries and melt the white chocolate au bain-marie. When the chocolate is totally melted, stir the bilberry juice through it. Stir until it becomes a bit faster. When the mixture is faster make small balls from it, the colour of the balls will differ from lilac to purple, depending on the amount of bilberry juice you used. After that let the Gravels cool down and serve them together with the Rock Giants.
That are the recipes the Ranger taught us. These things are so delicious! You really have to try them out! I especially loved the Rock Giants; they are so tasty!
All in all, we had a blast with the Ranger. He taught us so many things: not only some delicious recipes, but he also shared some amazing stories, that will forever stick with us.
