I can be found on IRC daily, for at least an hour, but usually more. I can be seen with the nickname “Herms”, or some variation of it. For me, many of the countless times I’ve multitasked, IRC/chatting was something I was doing. I love IRC; it’s one of my favorite parts of HOL. Not to mention all the people I get to talk to, and the hilarious things I get to witness. So for me, a day without IRC can leave me feeling a bit empty inside, like having things happen in my real life and then not being on IRC to immediately report on them. So you can imagine how two days without IRC felt for me, or, basically, no computer use since whenever I’m online I am on IRC.
I didn’t get to come on during Sunday and Monday (August 19th and 20th), because on Sunday I had a holiday and visited quite a few people, and then had visitors myself. I didn’t get a single MINUTE to myself that day! And then the festivities carried themselves on to Monday, where I had guests come over, and then I was whisked off to a relative’s house. I was devastatingly bored there, too. I had literally *no one* to talk to. And I couldn’t help but miss IRC more then. If I was on IRC, I wouldn’t be bored! I’d be surrounded by tons of people to talk to. The people I see on IRC are easier to talk to for me than some of my cousins, including the cousins I happened to visit on Monday.
Also there’s the whole missing-big-things-that-happened-while-you-were-gone thing. When I finally came on Tuesday evening (August 21st), I discovered I had quite some catching up to do! For instance, Allyson Celestra (Aly on IRC) came to me saying this in a p2p**, barely minutes after I came on:
“OMG HERMS I WANTED TO TELL YOU LOTS OF THINGS ABOUT MY FIRST DAY OF HIGH SCHOOL AND PEOPLE AND STUFF BUT YOU WEREN'T ON SO I WAS LIKE FJKDSFJLDSJFLSDFJ”, said Aly.
