An interesting idea, if Sirius Black were to have a daughter…with none other than the sister of Severus Snape. Yes dear readers, gasp in surprise.
Black Light, an enchanting tale which closely correlates with Harry Potter’s life, begins with such a heartwarming tale. Our fanfiction this month begins with a heavily pregnant Selina Snape Black enjoying Halloween with her husband, Sirius, and the Potters. But things go awfully wrong and suddenly, everyone is scattered when Selina goes into labour and dies, birthing a baby girl. Later, everyone is in prison, and Harry at the Dursley’s. Estella Black faces torture at the hands of child social services when she is rescued by none other than Severus Snape and Remus Lupin.
We follow the life of this lively little girl who warms Severus’ icy heart and watch her struggle on through 96 chapters. Yes, it is long. A very, very long fanfiction but I assure you, dear readers, that once you start, you won’t stop. And when it does end, you’ll feel as if the entire Harry Potter is ending all over again for you. Luckily for us all however, there is a sequel *\o/* AND a sequel to the sequel! So do not fear, you’ll have many, many more chapters to devour.
What I liked best about this story is that the grammar was GOOD. It’s been beta’d and very well at that! It follows a clear and coherent pattern, the language is rich and detailed. It’s like having the perfect chocolate cake that isn’t dry, but rather rich and creamy. If you love good grammar, this is the best thing for your trained eyes!
In keeping with the Halloween theme, our heroine, Estella Black, was born on Halloween! And there are a lot of schemes afoot too. I love this story because it allows you to re-experience Harry Potter from a different perspective. It leaves the story open for more what ifs.
I’m currently reading the sequel, White Shadows and need I say I am in love? It is the crème de la crème of all fanfictions I’ve had the honour of reading. I will most definitely be reviewing more of Dante Lewis’ work because it is too good to pass up.
And our second review for this issue: those of us who don’t have the time to read 96 chapters can try…

Fanfiction Name: My Master’s Bride
Author: Paimpont

This is short, it’s one chapter with purely gothic style writing. No, I don’t mean a modern gothic style of blood and gore (not that that’s too awful) but a medieval gothic style of veiled mystery and all those juicy things we love.
When you start to read it, it seems outlandish and not very much like Potter at all but as things progress, we begin to clearly understand who the story involves and how truly awesome it is. The story sympathizes with the husband, though I’d very much like to read a fanfic by the same author from the bride’s perspective: it would make for interesting reading.
Purely for Halloween, My Master’s Bride creates the perfect atmosphere for the coming celebration.
