Last months challenge was to write something that focus on this issues theme "New meets Old". It could be about anything and everything! And this is the result of this challenge! Hope you enjoy the story.
by Kyrie AdderholtThere are many stories of HOL legend that a newbie should know. Each house has their own batch of stories that are retold year after year. Most of these are from older times, but one in particular happened last year. As an older member of HOL, I feel it is my duty to tell the story that many people talk about to this day; some even say a few Hufflepuffs are still in therapy over it.
It all started early one morning in Gryffindor tower when Fumei Shirokuro woke up and went in search of her hourly pot of coffee. Yes, I said hourly. She fumbled her way over to the desk where her industrial strength coffee pot normally sat, but when she reached for it nothing was there! The scream that then erupted from Fumei was so loud that even the Slytherins down in the dungeons heard it. On closer inspection, Fumei noticed a piece of paper where the coffee pot should have been. It read “I hear the great hall has coffee…” Without even bothering to change out of pajamas, Fumei ran out of her room, past all of the scared Gryffindors, and down towards the great hall. She was horrified at the idea of having to drink the coffee there since more often than not someone slipped a potion or two into it when no one was looking. She burst through the doors, sending Edmund Smethwyck and his breakfast flying straight into Professor Alaia Logan’s lap. Fumei didn’t seem to notice, though, as all of her attention was focused on getting to the coffee. She reached the table and frantically looked around. There were the normal coffee pots all lined up, but nothing seemed out of place. Just as she was starting to think she would have to drink the tainted coffee, she spotted a piece of paper sticking out from under one of the coffee pots. On the paper was a map of Russia with a piece of cake drawn on it. Anyone who knows Professor Cassandra Lobiesk would know that this clue meant her, and so Fumei looked around the great hall to find her. It only took her a few minutes to spot Cassandra at the head table stealing bites from Ulol Kimil’s plate. However, just as Fumei was about to reach her, Cassandra disappeared into thin air. At this point Fumei was starting to lose it. She had been awake for over half an hour without coffee and was no closer to getting her coffee pot back. Fumei charged up to the head table, grabbed Ulol by the shoulders and started shaking him, demanding to know where Cassandra had gone. The entire great hall froze and watched as Ulol just stared at Fumei as though he was stunned. When he eventually came to his senses and realized that she was saying, he told her that Cassandra had a weekly meeting with The Daily Prophet and that she wouldn’t be back until lunchtime. He also informed her that she would have a week of detentions cleaning the owlery, but Fumei didn’t care. She was already walking away and wondering how in the world she was going to make it until lunchtime without her precious coffee. As it turned out, those would not be the only detentions Fumei received that day. She fell asleep in Charms class which resulted in two days of detention. In her next class, Divination, she was so irritated from lack of coffee that she told everyone that they were going to die, resulting in another three days of detention. During her final class before lunch, Transfiguration, Fumei was so desperate for her coffee that she actually tried to transfigure Amy Charz into a coffee pot. This resulted in her being sent straight to the Headmaster’s office where she was given another month of detention, this time cleaning the robes of all four quidditch teams. Finally it was lunchtime, and Fumei ran back down to the great hall. She caught a break at last and spotted Cassandra walking in front of her with the next clue taped to her back. Afraid that she might get away again, Fumei tackled her to the ground, grabbed the note, and ran off cackling, leaving the great hall in a stunned silence for the second time that day. When she finally came to a stop she was on the edge of the Great Lake. She looked at the note and saw a golden snitch with the letter S on it. Realizing that it meant Professor Scarlet Leslie, Fumei was starting to think that the Ravenclaws had her coffee pot. Knowing that RQT had cancelled lunch for its players in order to practice more, she headed towards the quidditch pitch. Upon arrival she was told that if she wanted to talk to Scarlet, she would have to get on a broom and fly up to her. Fumei was certainly no fan of quidditch and preferred to stay on solid ground, but if it meant getting her coffee pot back, then she was getting on a broom! After a few minutes of flying around she spotted Scarlet. She couldn’t see any signs of a clue on her, though, so she decided to just ask her. Scarlet claimed she didn’t know anything about the missing coffee pot, but that she had seen a note taped to the snitch earlier, but didn’t think anything about it since RQT was always trying crazy training techniques. Fumei spent the next half hour following Scarlet around as she searched for the snitch. She ended up spotting the snitch at the same second as Scarlet and they both went for it. Fumei was so determined to catch the snitch that she rammed Scarlet off of her broom. Despite receiving another week of detention, Fumei was ecstatic. She had caught the snitch and found not one, but two clues. The first one said that this would be her final clue and if she didn’t solve it by dinner then her coffee pot would be destroyed. The second clue had a picture of Justin Bieber and a jigsaw puzzle. Since Fumei had no idea with this clue could mean, she had no choice but to head to her last three lessons of the day. In potions she was so absorbed with trying to decipher the clue that she didn’t immediately notice that she had set her own robes on fire. One of her classmates put out the fire before she was injured, but Fumei was left with half burned off robes and another five days of detention. She managed to behave in her next class, History of Magic, but received detention anyway because in her mad hunt to find her coffee pot, she had forgotten to complete her homework that morning. During her last class of the day, Care of Magical Creatures, Fumei was becoming frantic. She knew she had just one hour left to save her coffee pot. She was muttering to herself about what a stupid muggle singer had to do with it when it hit her. The clue was referring to Muggle Puzzles, a special Muggle Studies class taught by Professor Rorey Padfoot. A class that just happened to take place that very day during the last time slot of the day! With only ten minutes left until dinner, Fumei knew she didn’t have time to run up to Rorey’s classroom on the sixth floor. Luckily for Fumei, there was a flying lesson for first years taking place at the same time. Ignoring the shouting from her classmates, Fumei raced towards the group of terrified looking first years while shouting at them to hand over a broom. She was momentarily delayed when eight brooms came hurling towards her, knocking her to the ground. Nothing, however, was going to stop her from getting her coffee pot back. She grabbed the closest broom and flew off towards Rorey’s classroom. Rorey was in the middle of her lesson on jigsaw puzzles when Fumei crashed through the window and into a bookshelf, sending the books flying. All of Rorey’s students went running and screaming from the classroom, leaving just the two of them. Upon realizing it was Fumei, Rorey tried to run from the classroom as well, but Fumei tripped her and knocked her to the ground. They fought like this for about ten minutes, with Rorey trying to escape and Fumei holding her back and yelling about her coffee pot. It was only when Ulol arrived that they stopped. After hearing both sides of the story, Ulol summoned some veritaserum and gave it to both of them. It turned out that Fumei was nearing Rorey’s record for the most points earned in a year and Rorey could not stand the thought of someone beating her. Rorey therefore came up with a plan to make Fumei go so insane that she would surely end up expelled. She explained how she bribed a first year Gryffindor to steal the coffee pot during the night and bring it to her. She knew that by leaving the clues she could get Fumei into enough trouble for the Headmaster to notice, setting the stage for when Fumei solved the final clue and attacked Rorey. Rorey would not only get her expelled, but also get to be the one who handed her in to the Headmaster. Ulol was baffled after listening to one of his best professors explain her attempts to get a student expelled. He sent for Cassandra and promoted her to temporary Headmistress so he could go on vacation and leave her to deal with it. Cassandra ordered Rorey to give Fumei’s coffee pot back and that they apologize and eat cake. Let this serve as a lesson to newbies: Older members are crazy about their points. Ulol will not deal with dramz. And for the love of quidditch do NOT touch Fumei’s coffee. |
