Hey guys! This month is special for Gryffindor, and as most of our Gryff readers would know, we go totally insane (like, literally, all my butterbeer bottles disappeared on the first night of Gryfftoberfest and I don’t know whether I finished them all or not. <__<) October is also a great month for Pokemon fans, as the new game, Pokemon X and Y has been released (as of 12th October). Another topic I want to discuss is the whole FIFA 14 versus PES 14 that’s been taking over the football/soccer world with recent developments, but more on that later!
As we all know, GTA 5 has been out on the shelves for about a month now and is one of the best-selling games ever with sales way past the $1 billion mark. Previously, Rockstar had stated that the game would only be released for the consoles with no news about whether or not there would be a PC version of the game. However, at Eurogamer, an anonymous source stated that Rockstar is going to release GTA 5 for the PC during the first quarter of 2014. PC gamers, time to rejoice!
Pokemon X and Y has been one of the most anticipated titles for the Nintendo 3DS and it looks impressive! The new generation of Pokemon looks good, with the return of Mewtwo and a new type of Eevee, Sylveon, is the new Fair Type. Pokemon X and Y is based in the new Kalos Region, which is shaped like a star. At the beginning of the game, you start off in Vaniville town, and head on over to Santalune City, where you face the Santalune City Gym Leader, who uses Bug Type Pokemon! A cool new feature that has been added is that you can now obtain Roller Skates!
Now, for the two biggest heavyweights in the football/soccer industry, FIFA 14 and PES 14 go head to head in a battle of which Konami is going on the right path.

Gameplay
There aren’t any huge differences in the way FIFA has been played since FIFA 09, but we shall only see them once the next-gen consoles release. FIFA 14 has some realistic player movements, real ball physics, and an enhanced artificial intelligence that enables you to make those crucial runs.
Konami has done brilliantly, with this year’s FOX engine, which brings a whole new level of gameplay in the PES franchise. Player movements and body collisions are much more realistic and passing is more fluent. The added bonus is that the stadiums look much clearer and the crowd isn’t pixelated cardboard. You will see the brilliant crowd physics, more notably in the Allianz Arena, home to FC Bayern Munich.

Graphics
FIFA hasn’t changed much in the graphics aspect, as most of their efforts will be shown in the next gen release of FIFA, with the all new IGNITE engine, which brings the stadiums and crowds back to life, and there are even some fabulous shots from outside the stadium, such as the Camp Nou in Barcelona, and the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid.
PES has again worked hard to maintain the realism in the game. Players look more realistic, and a lot of attention has been put onto the players’ facial expression, as well as the cloths on the kits.

Official Rights
FIFA wins hands down in this. The game features more than 30 licensed leagues with over 600 clubs and 16,000 players, whereas PES has had only 2 licensed leagues but an addition with the new AFC Champions League.
Conclusion
Overall, the competition is tight for the throne of the best Football/Soccer Simulation around, but FIFA will still hold on to its first position. With Konami’s latest improvements and engine, they sure look like a force that could possibly overtake Electronic Arts.
So that’s all for this issue; stay tuned for the next issue of The Gaming World where I will be reviewing Pokemon X and Y!
