Welcome back to the Book Worm's Cozy Corner! It’s Halloween, and we're getting excited. This month's subject is The Hunger Games, a fabulous book series written by a fabulous author, Suzanne Collins. Suzanne Collins is a New York Times bestselling author. There are three books in the series: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. It is an adventurous book of survival that takes place in a country in the future called Panem.
Katniss Everdeen - 16 year old Huntress
Katniss Everdeen, 16, is the main character in The Hunger Games series. She has a younger sister named Primrose "Prim" Everdeen and a mother who is very quiet. She hunts with her best friend Gale in order to provide a source of food for their poor families. She loves her sister and will do anything to protect her. Katniss develops a relationship with schoolmate, Peeta Mellark.
The Hunger Games- Battle to the Death
In the first book, Katniss gets chosen to participate in the 74th Annual Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a survival game in which twenty-four contestants battle to the death. They have to try to save themselves and make sure they don't die of hunger. . . or other worse things. Peeta Mellark also gets chosen along with Katniss to participate in the Hunger Games.

The Review
I would rate the whole series 4 out of 5 stars. It is an excellent and fabulous series but it includes a lot of violence and things young children should not be reading about. Catching Fire would probably be the most appropriate book for young children, but still they shouldn't be reading the series at all. "Whereas Katniss destroys with finesse, Collins writes with raw power"- Time Magazine.
The News
Catching Fire's movie is coming out on November 11, 2013, in theaters. The book was fantastic, so the movie should be, too. I would suggest reading Catching Fire first before you watch the movie. There is no more news for The Hunger Games that I know of. I'm sure there will be soon, though!
