Welcome to this new column called Poke Monthly! I shall be updating you Poke Fans out there (or just about anyone who wants to know) about the latest game news and updates. Since this is the first issue AND the Pokemon Black and White 2 Versions of the games have been released, it just seems fitting that I do a review for you guys, and then I’ll tell you about the cool stuff that’s going to be added for your game experience! Alrighty then, without further ado, here’s the review!
Pokemon Black 2 and White 2
As many people might know, this game is set 2 years after the original Black and White, and even though the English version of those games were released only a year ago, the Japanese games came out in 2010. This time, Game Freak decided to release the English version of the game just a few months after the Japanese release!
As tradition goes, the main professor of the game will introduce you to the wonderful world of Pokemon! Your main character will start from a new city called Aspertia City and guess what? This city has a POKEMON CENTER (and a Gym)! Something which hasn’t been done previously, and your hometown actually looks like a proper town and is not concealed within a set of square-ish tiles with only houses in it! Bianca is now Professor Juniper’s assistant and Cheren is now the first Gym Leader. You even get to see Alder very early on in the game! He’s introduced with his grand cliff jumping (which also makes me wonder: doesn’t his legs break or his ankles sprain? Is he some kind of a ninja?).
A cool feature is that you can now encounter and capture Pokemon from OTHER regions at the start of the game, which is just great! Game Freak has toned down the encounter rate of wild Pokemon appearing which is a relief! 2 new Gym Leaders have been added other than Cheren:
Roxie, a Poison Type Gym Leader, and Marlon, a Water Type Pokemon Specialist (and he’s the final Gym Leader). Remember Iris the Dragon Type Gym Leader? Yeah she’s the CHAMPION of Unova!
Team Plasma returns, and this time their outfits look like they’re some sort of ninja pirates.. Team Plasma has split; the ones with the new outfits are Ghetsis, and the former Team Plasma have now become a bunch of goody two shoes follow N’s footsteps of taking care of Pokemon. You also get to see N in some flashbacks, but only with the help of Memory Link!
Memory Link is a feature that allows you to connect your previous Black/White version to your new Black 2/White 2 version, which unlocks additional story elements including flashbacks from the events of the previous game, but mainly about N. You can also receive Keys to unlock Easy Mode and Challenge Mode (which basically changes the Trainers and Gym Leaders’ Pokemon levels and the amount of Pokemon and new strategies, overall, improved AI. This is completely opposite for the Easy Mode) and change your exclusive city from Black City to White Forest or vice versa, depending on which game you have.
You also still have your C-Gear and Entralink, which is nifty, and gyms are revamped and look a whole lot cooler! The graphics are still the same but they are just as amazing, the story line is gripping, there’s a lot of stuff to do, and Entralink’s Funfest Missions to complete in this game is highly addictive!
Overall, this game is BEAST, and by far, the best Pokemon game ever! It has a refined gameplay from the last Pokemon games, tons of content and activities to keep you engaged, and the visuals are incredible! If you are looking for an astounding Pokemon experience, look no further!
News and Updates:
The Genesect Event is still going on until November 12th, and I hope many of you can get this great Pokemon! Rumor has it that the next event would probably be the new mythical Pokemon Meloetta! This Pokemon has two forms which are the Aria (Normal and Psychic) and Pirouette (Normal and Fighting) forms.
A Halloween C-Gear Skin has been released and is now available on the Pokemon Global Link website!
A new Special Edition Nintendo 3DS LL Charizard has been released in Japan. No details on whether it will be released outside of Japan soon.
The Pokemon World Tournament can now be downloaded on the new games. This is accessible through the green computer in the Pokemon World Tournament in Driftveil City. The PWT has replaced the once Cold Storage and there hasn’t been a due date to download and register set yet, so people who have just gotten the game and have not reached this point in the game can still register themselves.
Well that’s all for this month! Please feel free to PM me, Patrick James, about anything related to Pokemon and maybe I’ll even start a part where I can answer questions (providing if people do ask me things), and even tell me what to improve on! Thank you and until next time!
