I've heard from the older students that countless stuff gets left behind every year because students either don't know what to do with all of their things, can't find them all, or lose them. Even though this is my first time packing up, it only took me half an hour to get all of my things squared away for the year, so I figured I would share some of my tips with you.
The problem most people have with packing is that they over think things. "How do I pack so that nothing breaks?" is something you should never worry about - the House Elves use magic to carry all of our stuff, if they break something it's on them. Although really, nothing's going to break. And of course the aim to "pack so that you know where everything goes" is also a rubbish and time consuming idea. You'll spend so much time thinking about what goes where that you'll end up forgetting something important! So now I present you with how you should all pack now that the year is over.
The first and foremost thing to do is to get your trunk. If your trunk is small, grab someone else's that doesn't have their name or initials on it - it's not called stealing if you confused a trunk double the size of yours, after all, things grow with time, right?
Now that you have a large trunk up in your dorm, it is time to start packing. Instead of prioritizing and folding things, start just shoving everything you own into that trunk. If you

Now that you have a large trunk up in your dorm, it is time to start packing. Instead of prioritizing and folding things, start just shoving everything you own into that trunk. If you
upgraded to a bigger sized trunk on the way up, you should have no problem with this. For others, this might make a tight squeeze. To avoid that either consistently jump on your things to press them down, or perform a shrinking charm on them. It doesn't really matter how long the charm lasts for, because as long as you've shut the trunk and sent it on down to the House Elves - if it explodes later that is not your problem. Can't perform a shrinking charm? Me neither, so just ask an older student to help! They'll be excited to show off their talents, and you'll be able to get everything to a more manageable size. I wouldn't do this on valuable items though - just clothing and easily fixed things.
Common places that people forget their things are under their beds or under their roommate's beds. If you see something under one of your dormmates beds that you like - feel free to grab that as well! If you once borrowed a shirt from them that you really liked, consider it a summer long loan and throw that in as well! Odds are they won't even miss it and you'll get a cool new shirt or toy for the summer!
If after all of this you still have a couple of things missing, now is time for the fun part. Obviously these things are the least important of all your items, but you don't want to just leave them in the dorm because I've heard rumors of a servicing charge if you do. This leaves you with only one option - chuck everything you own that is left out of your dorm room window and race outside to it. Once there, it's time for your end of school year bonfire! Feel free to include any notes or homework assignments from classes you may hate (although it is not my fault if you end up wishing you had them later) and set flame to all of it! A simple incendio should do the trick!
If you want to stick around and roast a marshmallow or sing some songs with your fellow Hogwartians, that would certainly be appropriate, but if you are in a rush and need to get out of there - just let the fire extinguish on its own and you should be fine!
Your welcome for all of the free help I just provided you, and please do not bother me with any questions as I am already on full summer mode - happy HOLidays!
