Doing that gave me the idea to create some Halloween cupcakes! Wouldn’t it be awesome if someone is eating your cupcake, without any suspicion, and when they are eating it, begins to run out of it?My wicked mind told me that was a terrific idea to do! So if you like to surprise your family or friends with this trick as well, try it out! As you guys probably know, I tend to get very lazy. So for the recipe of the cupcakes itself. You guys can go all crazy as you want. I used normal cake mix for it and I was too lazy to make it from scratch. But you can either make it from scratch (most of the time I like to do that) or just take some cake mix. For this you can use chocolate cake mix or normal cake mix. The choice is up to you!
To make the baking the cupcakes part short, bake them like you normally do and let them cool down. That’s all for that! ;)
For our slime, you need the following ingredients:
- 2/3 cup fresh lime juice
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 5 to 6 drops of blue food colouring
- 5 to 6 drops of yellow food colouring
- (Or 10 to 12 drops of green food colouring)
- Pour the lime juice and the sugar in a saucepan and let the sugar dissolve in the lime juice on a medium temperature.
- Whisk the eggs in a medium-sized bowl.
- When the sugar is dissolved into the lime juice, pour the lime juice slowly (drop by drop) in the eggs, while you keep whisking the eggs.
- Whisk these ingredients for about a minute until everything is mixed good. (but not longer than a minute!)
- Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook the mixture at the medium temperature until you have a thick lemon curd.
- Slowly add the food colouring and mix it all together (until you find you have the perfect green colour).
- Take the lemon curd off the stove and pour it into a heat resisting bowl.
- Let your lemon curd cool down and after that cover it with foil and let it cool down further in the fridge.
- 8,8 pound (dairy) butter
- 2 ½ cup of sieved powdered sugar
- 2 spoons of milk
- Vanilla extract
- Blue or green food colouring
- Start off with whisking the butter until it’s all smooth.
- Slowly start adding the sieved powdered sugar while you keep mixing it.
- After that, add the milk. I always start with one spoon, mix it thoroughly, and look how thick the mixture is. If I find it too thick I add a bit more. But I’m always careful with it, because you don’t want to make it too thin
- Add a little bit of vanilla extract to your mixture, and mix everything thoroughly.
- Now you have this yellow-looking butter crème. To make it a bit more prettier you can add some food colouring. For these cupcakes I decided to go for some blue food colouring. Because I wanted the butter crème to have this minty looking colour, I added a few drops of blue food colouring and mixed it all together.
- Put your butter crème in a piping bag and put it away until we need it for the cupcakes!
So now you have learned how to make butter crème! Before we go further, you should check if your slime has cooled down. If it’s still a bit warm, go and take a break for a bit!
When you have filled your cupcakes with your slime, we will start decorating the cupcakes into ‘Halloween’-style. I made three version for this.
- My first version was to just randomly add butter crème on top of the cupcake and spread it messily around. Since it’s Halloween, it doesn’t have to look perfect!
- My second version was that I made a witch hat on top of the cupcake. For this I needed the butter crème, some melted chocolate, and fondant. First you need to make a swirl with a round piping tip. Then dip your swirl into the melted chocolate. Now you got a witch hat! I decorated the witch hat with a little star, made out of fondant.
- My third version was a version with fondant and icing. I made black circles out of fondant that matched the size of the cupcake. I spread a small layer of butter crème on the cupcake, to act as glue for the fondant. When you have put the fondant on the cupcake I started to draw a spider web with some white icing. And to finish this cupcake I added a black spider on top of it (to make it scarier for those who are afraid of spiders *eyes at some fellow crazy bakers)
So this is how I was planning on making Halloween cupcakes! And as you guys probably have guessed, the lime curd (slime) can be (very) sour. For that, I decided to add some sweetness to cover up the sourness of the lime curd. Adding lots of butter crème is almost a must, or else people will look veeeeeeery sour throughout your Halloween party. ;) (or maybe that’s your plan!)
