On one cold Halloween night, years and years ago, a small boy, not bigger than an average first year, sneaked out of Hogwarts Castle. You see, he was on a mission to shed some light on one of the greatest myths in Hogwarts history. For generations there was this story going around, never written, never proven, never debunked either. It circulated from student to student, just whispers and rumours. Some said it was only meant to scare people, others believed it was true. Unfortunately nothing was ever proven, because people involved were always someone's fourth cousin's friend's mother's sister or someone's grandfather's brother's second cousin's twice removed brother in law.
However one thing all stories had in common is the monster and the horrid ending of a young student who found themselves in its path. The story says there is a monster so horrible in existence that simply knowing of its existence could cause serious harm, a mere remark or description in a book could drive the reader insane. The creature was never named, because it was feared that the mere name would make it more dangerous than it already was, instead it was always referred to as the Halloween monster. Why Halloween monster you might ask, well the answer is simple, the creature only shows itself once a year, at midnight, on Halloween night, in the Shrieking Shack.
The story says that many, many, many years ago it claimed the life of a young girl or boy, student from the school. Truth to be told, no one ever found the body, but the witnesses claim that the shrieks and cries were so horrible that no child could've survived. With this we're coming back to our brave little boy, his name was Evan, he thought that if he could prove to people that there was nothing scary in the Shrieking Shack on Halloween night that scary stories would end, that generations and generations of young students would stop crying themselves to sleep.
That fateful Halloween evening he walked into the Shrieking Shack as a small boy, but next morning he was no longer a boy, that boy was long gone. The creature that walked out next morning was mere reflection of the boy. No one knows what happened in there that night. We only know one thing, whatever it was it was terrible enough to scare every bit of magic out of his young body, and every sound out of his innocent soul. You see, young Evan never spoke a word after that night, and it seemed he lost all his magical powers too. All that remains from that boy is his hollow sunken eyes and an expression of terror frozen across his tiny face.
I better stop here, before I say too much. Wouldn't want this terrible fate upon anyone else.
